Lab-Grown Diamonds
Understand what lab-grown diamonds truly are, why they're identical to mined diamonds, and why the world's finest jewelers are embracing them.
What Is a
Lab-Grown Diamond?
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. Not a simulant, not cubic zirconia — a genuine carbon diamond crystal, identical in every measurable way to diamonds formed naturally over billions of years beneath the Earth.
Scientists replicate the extreme conditions of the Earth's mantle — temperatures above 1,400°C and pressures of 5–6 GPa — in a controlled laboratory environment. The result? A diamond that is chemically, physically, and optically identical to a mined diamond.
Not even the world's most sophisticated gemological instruments can tell a lab-grown diamond apart from a mined one without specialized equipment. They share the same brilliance, fire, and scintillation.
How They're Created
Understanding the 4 C's
The 4 C's — Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat — determine a diamond's quality and value. Lab-grown diamonds are graded on the exact same scale as mined diamonds.
Cut
Cut is the most important factor affecting a diamond's brilliance. It determines how well the diamond interacts with light. Always choose Excellent or Very Good cut for maximum sparkle.
Color
Diamond color grading goes from D (completely colorless and rarest) to Z (noticeable color). The less color a diamond has, the more valuable. D-F range is considered colorless.
Clarity
Clarity refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes. Flawless (FL) is the best grade. VS1-VS2 and VVS1-VVS2 diamonds have inclusions invisible to the naked eye and are excellent value.
Carat
Carat is the measure of a diamond's weight (not size). One carat equals 0.2 grams. Larger diamonds are rarer and exponentially more expensive. Lab-grown diamonds allow you to get larger carats for less.
